Notebook of Geography (ies)

Northeast India, the northeastern borderland of Southeast Asia represented always as a deviant, exotic place is situated on the periphery of a nation state, a frontier imagination.
The security forces are engaged in an armed conflict with the insurgent groups and the worst victims of it are the average citizens. The entire geography is governed by the acts of the security forces. In an environment of extreme militarization the region experiences sustained hurt and humiliation. The experience of everyday violence in a region created out of imposed imagined geographies, pushed into the periphery of the imagination of a nation state gives rise to a terror stricken subjectivity. Here the body too a territory to be trespassed upon.

We try to find possible tools for a repolitisation of subjectivity in our present culture. We are reacting to our contemporary reality and have a need to communicate. The medium used is based on local accessibility and encompasses cross border practices between photography, digital video, digital images and multimedia installations.

The geography threads the experiences of the region and constructs the histories of violence, migrations and identity politics. This we explore in the “Notebook on geography (ies)”, through the collection of events recorded in “real time”, (documentative as well as subjective).
